How to Improve Focus and Avoid Getting Fat While on Your Next CAT Deployment

Studies show exercise improves productivity because it boosts blood flow to the brain.  This blood flow also increases your awareness and focus, thus promoting mindfulness and your ability to achieve a flow-state.

Exercise also provides you with more energy and alertness while improving your mood. That’s the perfect recipe for crushing your claims.

You don’t have to work out at a gym, but you should plan a time during the day to exercise, at least a few times per week. Do something that gets your body moving and your heart pumping for the sake of your health as well as your productivity.

Improve focus, work out more!

Whether it’s yoga, walking around the block, rock climbing, or lifting weights, all that matters is that you do something that gets your mind and body active.

What I learned from working out regularly

Personally, I recommend exercising early in the morning before you begin your day.  The harder you exercise, the more cognitive endurance you’ll have throughout the day.  Not only that, but I found out that it will also help improve your tolerance of others, including contractors and public adjusters.  It’s much harder for you to lose your grip on the day if you’ve already pushed your body to its physical limit.

If you feel uncomfortable going to a gym because you don’t know what to do or feel like distractions prevent you from getting a good workout in, give some consideration to group fitness classes.  These are trainer-led programs that would include you and others.  This means you don’t need to put together your own workout and typically won’t have time to check your phone or give into normal distractions.  Class types can range from CrossFit to water aerobics for seniors.

I’ve been a long-time member of Orangetheory Fitness.  There, your heart-rate is monitored throughout the workout so you can see exactly how you’re performing.  Best of all, there has been one near every deployment location I’ve been to.
